O'Brien- We see this story told through O'Brien's point of view. He is the main character. Even long after the war he is still feeling the effects of it. We see into his past through his flash back.
Kathleen- Is O'Brien's daughter. She is young and innocent. O'Brien feels that she is too young to understand why he killed a man so he hides it from her. He hopes to one day when she is older to try and explain his story.
Kiowa- O'Brien's friend and is with him when he kills the man. He tries to comfort O'Brien after O'Brien kills a man. Kiowa is extremely important to O'Brien because he is one of the few people O'Brien can talk to, and he is there for O'Brien in his hardest times.
